Iran is prepared to resume atomic talks with the United States on condition that it is approached with "dignity" and "respect", Iran's top diplomat has stated.

Abbas Araghchi said solely negotiations produced results, and shared recent overtures had originated from go-betweens to resume discussions with the Trump administration. He said Iran had zero unreported enrichment locations, and Tehran could not yet authorize the UN nuclear inspectorate to inspect attacked atomic facilities for security reasons.

Navigating a Challenging Path

Araghchi is treading a challenging course since Iran wishes not to appear to be operating from a stance of weakness, and he emphatically stated that Iran had arisen stronger defensively and mentally from the coordinated strike on its nuclear sites in June.

He was talking at a strategic meeting in Tehran where he reaffirmed that Iran had "a fundamental entitlement to process nuclear material within its borders that it will never give up" – the key factor of the impasse in the previous talks.

Earlier Talks Unexpectedly Terminated

The prior phases of talks between the United States and Iran were brought to an abrupt and acrimonious conclusion on 12 June when Israel, with US support, struck Iranian nuclear sites in a fortnight-long engagement that concluded with the American leader claiming the sites had been destroyed. Afterward, European countries used their authority to reimpose international penalties, but Iran insists they have not had a substantial consequence.

Ideal Resolution Suggested

Iran's diplomats said they felt they had reached a "magic solution" to the uranium processing matter in prior discussions, when it was decided an domestic cooperative with Washington's engagement could process nuclear material. Both sides would have been able to assert triumph since domestic enrichment would have remained and the US could be confident that Iran's enrichment initiative was solely for peaceful purposes.

It had not been settled in the discussions that US nuclear scientists could function on Iranian soil, but that was a reasonable assumption of the partnership suggestion. Officials asserted three times they had achieved a deal with Washington's diplomat the US official only for the agreement to collapse due to "opponents in the US".

Existing Position
