Ten individuals sentenced of online harassment against Brigitte Macron

A court in Paris has found guilty ten people for carrying out the online harassment of Brigitte Macron, the spouse of the President of France, Emmanuel Macron.

The accused individuals faced accusations of circulating false claims regarding her gender identity and sexuality, in addition to publishing hurtful comments about the husband and wife's age disparity of 24 years.

The court handed down suspended prison sentences of a maximum of eight months to the defendants. The complete verdict has still to be made public.

A persistent unfounded claim alleging that Brigitte Macron is a transgender woman has spread widely since her husband's initial election in 2017.

This latest legal outcome in France coincides with the Macrons initiating a libel case in the United States of America against right-wing influencer Candace Owens, who has likewise promoted comparable unfounded claims about the Brigitte Macron's biological sex.

Their complaint states that Owens ignored all credible evidence disproving her claim opting to amplify the voices of notorious conspiracy peddlers.

Owens has regularly repeated these claims on her podcast and social media channels, and in March 2024 proclaimed that she would risk all her credibility on her conviction that Mrs. Macron was born a man.

Brigitte Macron originally became acquainted with her now-husband when she was a teacher at his high school.

The couple entered into matrimony in 2007, when the future French president was 29 and she was 54.
